Sympathy Card

Some times things happen and we lose people in our families, this recently happened to us with the loss of our oldest nephew, Tom. For our 20th Wedding Anniversary, we drove to Odessa, Texas to my husband's brother's house, the next day we attended Tom's memorial service the following day was just relaxing, some shopping for the girls while the guys took all the kiddos bowling, yesterday we drove home.  I didn't have time before heading down to Texas to make a card for my sister-in-law but after we got unpacked I sat at my desk last night remembering the pictures of Tom and knowing his love for green and Shamrocks. One of the things said during his service was about being lucky and finding a four-leaf so trying to bring the positive back in, I created this card.

USA

It's almost The Fourth of July!  And this year I get a special treat... my sister will be coming for a visit, arriving at my house on the Fourth for a BBQ complete with our Dad at the grill & our younger brother plus niece to hang out too!  We're also planning a little hike at one of our beautiful Arkansas State Parks, Devil's Den that my sister hasn't been to for a very long time. Of course, I'll be toting along the ole camera to try to get as many shots as possible and I'm sure my brother will have along his brand new camera as well.  How Exciting!

Sketch Frenzy Friday has a great sketch that I immediately thought of this new Washi tape I just  got yesterday in the mail!

Washi Tape from Crafty Steals (this is the first thing I've made with this wide roll, it's pretty cool)

Stars cut on Cricut

Cardstock - misc White, Red from Stampin' Up

Alphas - Lotsa Letters

of course, this card will be going to OWH but I'll have to hold on to it for almost a year as the deadline for the 4th has long passed

heartfelt thanks

I very recently got hooked on Washi Tape... seriously, I love this stuff!  My first Washi only order arrived Downtown Tape, placing an order with friends so we each only paid $1 for shipping :-) this week, I received 8 new rolls!  Previously I had received 2 rolls at a crop and immediately purchased a third.  For a long time I've had the Tim Holtz Tapes (butterflies, music, words & script) but I don't use them much, I don't know why.  But these colored Washi tapes are fabulous!  I ordered from.
Freshly Made Sketches #91 has a great little sketch right now, but I did make a small alteration by changing out the sketch's scallops for flowers

I'm also entering this in Unity Stamp Co.'s Friends with Flair!

So I just wrapped a piece of cardstock, alternating three different Washi tapes until the entire piece of cardstock was covered.  Followed that up by dry embossing dots.

I added a strip of adhesive to the back right edge, the applied flowers from Portafolia to the back of my embellished cardstock.

Next I created the little banner using some really CloseToMyHeart cardstock, sentiment stamp from Unity Stamp Co's Heartfelt Sentiments. I used Ink from CloseToMyHeart in Watermelon. Topped the banner off with another flower from the same collection along with a tiny brad from The Paper Studio.

You Are Missed

Not only is there a fantastic sketch for this week on Operation Write Home's blog, but there is a Blog Candy Alert too!  You probably should check it out :)

This great printed paper comes from My Mind's Eye called Find and Dandy True Blue (gotta love those boy & girl owls!)

The cardstock is from this HUGE stack I recently bought from DieCutWithAView for a fantastically low price.  It could be a tad bit thicker for my taste but I'll fully line the whole thing so it will hold up to the solider's writing home.

Stamp - Unity Stamp Co. Miss You So Much

Ink - CloseToMyHeart Cocoa

Yellow Dots - Candi (I love these!  They add embellishment without the weight & bulk of metal brads)

Of course I made more than just these two, I ended up with six cards!

very special Thank You

Operation Write Home's Midweek Throwdown is Water... which works out great since I got this fantastic Plate of Rubber from VivaLasVegas Stamps & hadn't used the Light House yet

For the Sky I used some Vellum but didn't like how it looked so I layered it twice, the smeared Brilliance Pearlescent Sky Blue which I think looks kinda cool

The water is a different Vellum that has little reflective flecks in it which I topped off with some Stickles in Waterfall.

Lighthouse Stamp is from VivaLasVegas Stamp Plate #923 stamped in Memento Cocoa Brown

Sentiment is also from VLV Stamps but this time a grab bag back when I won a pound of rubber, which I stamped in the same Pearlescent Sky Blue.

White lines I drew by hand using Jelly Roll pen.

Twine from The Twinery

Spark

one of my scrappy friends, Miwa, is hosting a challenge over on 2 Broke Girls to fussy cut a flourish & use it on a creation. I paired it up with the current color combo from Inkspirational Challenges #23 and Love to Scrap's Challenge#7 to Rubber Stamp.  I'm so happy with how it turned out too!

Lightbulb Stamp - Unity Stamp Co. Lightbulb Moment

Stamped with VersaMark, embossed with Zing in Sliver

Sentiment Stamp - Unity Stamp Co. Undeniably You

Stamped with Tim Holtz Worn Lipstick

Flourish Stamp - Unity Stamp Co. Believe in Fairytales

Stamped with Tim Holtz Worn Lipstick, CloseToMyHeart Sunset & Sunkiss Yellow
